ABOUT ST. PETER'S C.E. PRIMARY SCHOOL

St Peter’s is a Voluntary Aided Church of England School attached to the Parish Church of St Peter’s in Darwen.

There are places for 315 children in school, 45 in each year group. The children are presently grouped into 11 classes; five classes in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) and six classes in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6).

In order to keep the children in classes as small as possible, the children are organised in either straight year groups or mixed year groups.  Children are grouped according to a range of factors that include age, ability and social grouping.

All classes are well equipped and cater for a wide range of teaching styles.  All rooms have carpeted areas that are suitable for informal class sessions and activities.  Staff take pride in creating a lively and interesting atmosphere in their rooms and children’s work is widely displayed and celebrated.

In addition to these rooms there is a good sized hall, a library, several additional teaching areas, kitchen, a stage, staffroom and offices. Every classroom has a bank of i-pads as well as access to class laptops for everyday use.

One of the great attractions of the school is the surrounding grounds and sports field.  There are two large playgrounds and an enclosed smaller playground for the Foundation stage.  We also have an adventure playground, tyre park, enclosed wildlife area, sports cage and inner court yard garden.
